If it sounds impossible, that’s what the Oklahoma state government is trying to achieve by reallocating money from the state’s welfare program to fund a controversial plan aimed at married couples. The Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program is a 12-hour class that helps couples get along better. Can it really repair the state’s high divorce rate? Should these types of programs be implemented nationwide?

Sen. David Hoyle apparently would like couples getting married by the magistrates to obtain pre-marital counseling. This week, Hoyle has introduced a bill to help fund two pilot programs in Gaston and Guilford counties in North Carolina. These programs would provide premarital education to people who want to get married by the magistrates. Do you think courthouse marriages are more likely to end in divorce?
